Winter Getaway Guide

Bookmark and Share

The nights draw in and the weather varies between dry and cold and wet and cold. Yes, British winters can seem to last forever and sometimes all you want to do is get away from it all. If you fancy escaping to somewhere a little more exotic than drizzly England maybe you should think about a winter holiday.

There are many options available to you - the world is literally your oyster. For those on a budget how about a mini break to a European city such as Paris or Prague? A couple of hours on a plane and you`ll be somewhere new and exciting. Though you might not be experiencing vastly different weather to that in the British Isles, at least you`ll be exploring the history, architecture and atmosphere of a new city. Bruges in Belgium is particularly inviting around Christmas as its Christmas market is magical and perfect for picking unusual presents - as well as a mug or three of mulled wine!

To escape the chill head for some winter sun. Sharm El Sheikh is very popular for those who just want to feel the heat without having to sidle up to a radiator. One of Egypt`s most beautiful areas, it boasts temperatures that average 26 degrees Celsius throughout the British winter - be the envy of your friends with a winter tan! The Mediterranean resorts that are so popular in the summer time for British holiday-makers are a lot cooler and emptier throughout the winter but places such as Cyprus rarely see the temperature fall below 10 degrees Celsius, even at the height of the winter, so you can escape there for a milder couple of weeks. Other resorts such as Magaluf and the island of Ibiza are great at this time of year if you want to avoid the clubbing masses. For those with the cash to spare why not take advantage of a winter cruise around the glorious Caribbean, enjoying white sandy beaches and nothing but blue skies.

If you want the ultimate winter holiday you could always go skiing. Whether you`re a total beginner or a hardcore annual ski-tripper, there is no better way to escape England`s rain and hail than to go somewhere even colder! The French/Swiss Alps as well as Canada`s resorts feature epic trails, views and accommodation to suit any standard of skier as well as absolutely any budget - skiing is no longer an activity enjoyed only by the rich elite.

In these tough financial times it can be difficult to plan for holidays money-wise. But there are plenty of bargains to be had. Do your research online and look out for things such as First Choice vouchers that will soon see you waving the UK behind for a well-earned holiday.
